IPL 2023: SRH's Heinrich Klaasen fined for use of public criticism, LSG's Amit Mishra also penalised

IPL 2023: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen has been fined 10 percent of his match fee for criticising the decision of the umpires in match number 58 of the IPL 2023 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Saturday.

A high-full toss in the 19th over from LSG pacer Avesh Khan to Abdul Samad was first declared a no-ball before the third umpire declared it a legal delivery after review from LSG.

The ball-tracker, however, showed that the delivery would have gone well over the stumps. Klaasen and Samad showed a lot of disappointment on the controversial decision. Klaasen also criticised the decision during the mid-innings break.

"Disappointed with the crowd and their behaviour. Not great umpiring decision and one has got to move on from it. That break in play broke the momentum completely I feel," the South African cricketer, who scored 47 off 29, said.

Notably, the crowd at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad got into an altercation with members of the LSG camp who were sitting in their dugout near the boundary rope. The play had to be halted momentarily for the same reason.

"Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Heinrich Klaasen has been fined 10 Percent of his match-fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. Klaasen admitted to the Level 1 Offence under Article 2.7 which states the use of public criticism/inappropriate comment in the IPL’s Code of Conduct," a release said.

Further, veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra has also been fined. The 40-year-old reacted aggressively after taking SRH opener Anmolpreet Singh's catch in the ninth over. He threw the ball angrily and stared at the batter to give him a send off.

"Lucknow Super Giants’ Amit Mishra has been reprimanded for breaching the IPL’s Code of Conduct. Mr Mishra admitted to level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of IPL’s Code of Conduct which states abuse of equipment during the match. Mr Mishra accepted the sanction," the IPL release said.

Lucknow Super Giants defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets in the crucial clash to jump to fourth spot in the ten-team IPL 2023 points table.
