IPL 2023: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend Suresh Raina has predicted a 'sweet' headache' for MS Dhoni following a 19-ball fifty - the fastest of IPL 2023 season - by Ajinkya Rahane against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday.
Rahane was a last moment inclusion in the match and came in for Moeen Ali who was unwell. Grabbing the opportunity with both hands, the 34-year-old smashed seven fours and three sixes en route to his blazing 27-ball 61-run knock on his CSK debut.
Raina has now predicted that CSK captain Dhoni will have a "sweet headache" because of Rahane's match-winning knock. Raina also credited the power of CSK's yellow jersey for Rahane's sublime knock which floored one and all.
“This is the strength of the yellow jersey! As we discussed mid-innings, both Rahane and Ruturaj are players from Mumbai and Maharashtra respectively and understand these pitches very well. So, they used the opportunity very well. This will be a sweet headache for Mahi bhai when Moeen Ali returns to the fold," Rahane told JioCinema.
Rahane also opened up on his journey with four-time champions CSK so far. He stated that the atmosphere at CSK is as wonderful as he had heard before joining the team. He praised Dhoni for allowing players to express themselves.
“It all boils down to how badly you want to play and how hungry you are to play. I always aim to play and contribute to my team’s cause. Especially when I came to know that CSK had bid for me, I was happy. I had heard a lot about the atmosphere in the dressing room.
"But when I came here, I actually experienced it. It is a wonderful atmosphere. That helps a player relax. Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) gives every player the freedom to play," the former Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain told JioCinema.
CSK will play their next match Rajasthan on Wednesday, April 12 in Chennai.
