IPL 2023: Virat Kohli Gautam Gambhir clash - Experts give opinion on heated spat

Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir had another heated exchange in the recent IPL match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants on Monday (May 1).

The two Indian icons clashed after the match and were involved in a heated exchange. It was seen both Kohli and Gambhir were animated regarding an issue and the pair clashed together.

The reason for their coming together is still unknown, but an incident associated with LSG player Naveen-ul-Haq played the biggest part it seems. The Afghan player came into bat and had some exchanges with Kohli, which was minimal but it seems the Gambhir-Kohli altercation was just an aftermath of that.

But regarding their spat, experts were united that both players should have avoided their loss of composure.

LSG had earlier won at Bangalore this season and Gautam Gambhir was seen celebrating passionately after the match. And IPL expert Harbhajan Singh believes the earlier match played a part in this.

"Maybe what happened in Bangalore had a part in it. A lot of things happen on the ground and they got overboard with emotion. You should avoid doing something. The celebration after taking wickets, and shouting was alright. But after that it was not right," Harbhajan said on Star Sports.

Former India coach Ravi Shastri believes LSG player Naveen-ul-Haq started the incident but condemned the spat between Kohli and Gambhir.

"You can see where it started. Naveen-ul-Haq started it and only Mishraji (Amit Mishra) can explain what exactly happened. I think it happened because of this only. But what happened after the match shouldn't have happened," Shastri said on Star Sports.

JioCinema expert Robin Uthappa was also vocal against Virat Kohli and said Kohli's extreme level of celebration and overdoing his emotional gestures were the main instigators.

"I am not a fan of Kohli's celebration. You are not a 21-year-old and this kind of behaviour is unexpected," Uthappa said.
