IPL 2023: Why is Rohit Sharma not playing playing today's IPL match against KKR

IPL 2023: Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma is not playing against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium today (Saturday) because of a stomach bug. Stand-in captain Suryakuamar Yadav revealed the reason after being asked by Ravi Shastri at toss.

Mumbai Indians have won the toss and elected to bowl first. Rohit has been named in the list of Impact Substitute players and there is a possibility that he could turn up later in the match to open for Mumbai.

The 35-year-old had roared back to form in his side's last match against Delhi Capitals (DC). He helped the five-times chase a 173-run target by scoring 65 runs off 45 balls. He was adjudged Man of the Match for his crucial knock.

Overall, Rohit has scored 87 runs in three matches at an average of 29 and a strike rate of 127.94 in three IPL 2023 matches so far. Mumbai are occupying the ninth spot in the 10-team table after winning one and losing two matches.

Talking about the current match, Mumbai has named Arjun Tendulkar in the playing eleven for the first time. The 23-year-old is the son of legendary Sachin Tendulkar who has led Mumbai Indians in the past.

Uncapped South African left-arm pacer Duan Jansen has also been added to MI's playing eleven for the match. Cameron Green is expected to open alongside Ishan Kishan in the absence of Rohit.

KKR, who are placed fifth in the points table (2 wins and 2 losses) are playing with the same team which turned up against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Friday.
