IPL 2024: 3 Reasons why Abhishek Sharma will be the standout performer for SRH this season

Abhishek Sharma shot to prominence by scoring a hundred in his Under-19 debut for Punjab in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy. For the record, the youngster led India to a memorable win in the U-19 Asia Cup in 2016. Besides that, he was a crucial part of the U19 World Cup 2018.

Impressed by his talent, the 23-year-old was roped in by Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2018 but didn't get enough match time as he played only three games. Following the season, he was roped in by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2019.

He has been with the Orange Army since then. The youngster recently completed 1000 runs in the IPL and is expected to add more runs to his tally in the games to come. Let's now take a glimpse at the three reasons why Abhishek Sharma will be the standout performer for SRH this season.

1. Talent and confidence

When Abhishek Sharma joined SRH in 2019, he didn't get match time in his first season as he played three games. However, in the next season, he played eight matches but didn't have the best of numbers to his credit. Despite his poor form, the franchise kept backing the talented batter and he repaid the faith by scoring 426 runs in IPL 2022 season.

His performance took a hit in the IPL 2023 season as he scored 226 runs. Despite that, the franchise retained him ahead of the IPL 2024 season and the youngster started this season on a blistering note. He certainly has the confidence to take his game to the next level this season. The franchise deserves a bit of credit for helping him shape up to be a fine batter.

2. Playing with great freedom

Abhishek Sharma has all the tools and ingredients to make his presence count this season because of the way he went about his business. He played the game not just with intent but with great freedom and rightly so, he was able to express himself so far. Abhishek Sharma pitched in with 32 off 19 (4 fours, 2 sixes) against KKR in the first game.

He then followed it up with a sensational 63 off 23 balls against Mumbai Indians where he struck as many as 3 fours and 7 sixes at a strike rate of 273.91. Notably, he was adjudged the Man of the Match for his impactful performance. In the last game, he pitched in with 29 off 20 balls including 2 fours and 2 sixes against GT.

3. Good student of the game

A raw talent like Abhishek Sharma who knows a thing or two about hitting sixes and fours is only expected to get better as the tournament progresses. It is simply because he is a student of the game where he sees every single moment as a learning opportunity. Recently, he credited Brian Lara for helping him bring the best out of himself.

After getting the Man of the Match award for his performance against MI in Hyderabad, the Amritsar-born cricketer, at the post-match presentation echoed that his pep talk to former SRH coach and West Indies great Brian Lara before the clash against MI, helped him unleash his fury in the game.
