IPL 2024 Auction in Dubai on December 19 is likely to see several bidding wars, and among them is likely to be a three-way fight for Afghanistan's World Cup star all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai.
Omarzai is fresh from a pretty good outing in the ICC World Cup 2023, where he scored 353 runs, including 3 fifties in 8 innings at an average of 70.60. The right-handed batter, who also bowls medium pace, claimed 7 wickets in 9 matches at an economy rate of 7.10.

In 14 T20I innings, he has scored just 185 runs at poor strike rate of 112 and claimed 11 wickets in 22 innings. Although the pace of innings may be slow, his ability to take games deep and roll his arms over capably makes him an option to be looked at by the franchises in IPL auction 2024.
Even in the ongoing Abu Dhabi T10, Omarzai's number do not look that impressive as he has scored just 15 runs and claimed 4 wickets in 7 innings. However, a pace-bowling all-rounder is pretty rare these days, and any team will be keen on investing in such talent.
Chennai Super Kings are unpredictable when it comes to auctions, but having lost someone like Ben Stokes and the injury-prone pace attack at their disposal, the five-time champions may look at bringing in Omarzai, who can be a good bat in their home conditions and also fill in as a fifth or sixth bowling option.
Rajasthan Royals have already traded batter Devdutt Padikkal to bring in a pacer Avesh Khan from Lucknow Super Giants, but with the release of West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder, they have a vacant slot to fill, and Omarzai would be an ideal choice for the role.
Gujarat Titans already have two Afghan players in Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmed, but they still can bring in at least one more overseas player. And also with the departure of Hardik Pandya, Omarzai fits the role of a batter who can take the game deep and a pace bowler, who can bowl with the new ball as well as in the middle and death overs.
