The IPL 2024 auction unfolded in Dubai on Tuesday (December 19) and it broke the previous records with some jaw-dropping action at the auction table.
Kolkata Knight Riders spent Rs. 24.75 crore on Mitchell Starc, thus making the Australian the most expensive player in the history of the competition. Sunrisers Hyderabad were not far back either, spending a whopping Rs. 20.50 crore on another Australian pacer Pat Cummins.

But amid all the spending spree, the franchises decided not to raise their baton for some players, some of which has surprised a few. Here are five surprising players who went unsold in the auction-
Tabraiz Shamsi was left unsold in the auction. The South African spinner is currently the no. 10 ranked bowler in T20Is, and it was a surprise to see him going unsold in the auction. Shamsi was previously ranked 1 in T20Is and had only played 5 IPL matches before.
Sarfaraz Khan was released by Delhi Capitals ahead of the auction. And the Mumbai batter has found no teams in the auction. The 26-year-old innovative batter is someone who would have been expected to find a team, but was left without any takers in the auction.
Josh Inglis, one of Australia's top-performing players went unsold in the auction. The 28-year-old wicketkeeper-batter recently scored a century against India in the T20s, but none of the teams raised the peddle for him. He is a flamboyant player who would have been a decent addition to any side.
Atit Sheth has been bowling pretty well for Baroda and West Zone. He is also amongst the wickets this season. The all-rounder is a decent bowler who also is a handy batter down the order. Hence none of the team going for Sheth was a surprise.
Finn Allen is an explosive player who can dismantle bowling teams with his power hitting up at the top of the order. The Kiwi batter was with RCB once but never had a match in the IPL. With a modest base price of Rs. 75 lakh, Allen was expected to have some suitors, but it was surprising to see not a single bid arriving for him.
