Earlier in the auction, Pat Cummins' had become the costliest ever buy in the league after Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) bought him for Rs 20.50 crore.
Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) started the bid for the Australian left-arm pacer and fought neck-to-neck before DC backed out as MI made a bid of Rs 9.60 crore.

Mumbai Indians were the second team to get out of the race as an extra-ordinary bidding started between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). GT backed out after a prolonged discussion after KKR made a bid for Rs 24.75 crore.
KKR had bought him for Rs 9.40 crore in the IPL 2018 auction. But he was ruled out due to a right leg injury. Starc last played an IPL match back in 2015. He played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the season. The 33-year-old has played a total of 27 IPL matches and picked 34 wickets at an average of 20.38 and an economy rate of 7.17.
