IPL 2024 Auction: Rovman Powell of West Indies became the first player to be sold in the IPL 2024 auction on Tuesday, December 19. He was sold to Rajasthan Royals (RR) for Rs 7.40 crore.

There was an intense bidding war between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) after the former made the first bid of Rs 1 crore.

Powell was part of the Delhi Capitals squad in IPL 2022 and 2023. The franchise bought him for Rs 2.80 cr in IPL 2022 auction.

The West Indies star played a total of three matches in the IPL 2023. He scored just seven runs at a strike rate of 77.78. In the 2022 season, he scored 250 runs in 14 matches at an average of 25 and a strike rate of 149.70.

The 30-year-old right-hand batter recently registered scores of 39, 50 and 31 unbeaten runs in the T20I series against England. Overall, he has played a total of 184 T20 matches and scored 3369 runs at an average of 25.33 and a strike rate of 139.50.
