IPL 2024 Auction: Batting great Gavaskar and Sanjay Manjrekar have praised Pat Cummins ahead of the IPL 2024 auction and said that the multi-dimensional cricketer would be on the radar of several franchises.
Pat Cummins, who opted out of the IPL 2023, is set to return to the cash-rich league in 2024. The 2023 World Cup-winning captain of Australia has set himself a base price of Rs 2 crore.

On the sidelines of the second T20I between India and Australia on Wednesday, Gavaskar recalled Pat Cummins' 14-ball fifty in the IPL 2022 against Mumbai Indians.
"I think there will be tremendous interest in Pat Cummins. Don't forget when he played for KKR, he got the fastest fifty at one stage. So he can play as a batter as well, apart from the fact that he's one of the best bowlers that the game has seen. I think he would be the one that will attract the most interest from all the franchises," Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
Speaking on the same panel, Sanjay Manjrekar opined that sides like Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) are in transition period and may aim for a leader. He added that Cummins has the ability to work his magic even on pitches not supportive of pacers.
"Pat Cummins would be a great addition on a pitch with where, you know most bowlers struggle. He has got that X factor and out of the box thinking, you know, just something of a wild card," Manjrekar said.
"A couple of teams looking for leadership, different leadership. SunRisers Hyderabad with Aiden Markram, Punjab Kings with Shikhar Dhawan. So Pat Cummins recent performance as a leader as well could maybe get the attention of a few team owners as well. Unlikely to happen, but can't rule that out," concluded the former cricketer.
