IPL 2024 Auction: Tom Moody's big prediction for Steve Smith, quotes unreal price for Mitchell Starc

IPL 2024 Auction: Tom Moody, the former coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), has said that Steve Smith will go unsold in the IPL 2024 auction at the Coca Cola Arena in Dubai on Sunday, December 19.

Steve Smith set himself a base price of Rs 2 crore in the IPL 2022 auction but went unsold. He did not register himself in the IPL 2023 auction. But the star Australia batter has again registered himself under the Rs 2 crore base price category for the IPL 2024 auction.

Further, Mitchell Starc is also raring to play in the IPL for the first time after 2015. Starc is on the wishlist of several franchises going into the auction, and Moody predicted that he would break Sam Curran record for costliest ever buy in the history of IPL. Notably, Punjab Kings (PBKS) bought the England all-rounder for Rs 18.50 crore in IPL 2022 auction.

"Steve Smith, I don't think, will get picked up in the auction this year. Secondly, Mitchell Starc will break the all-time auction record which is currently held by Sam Curran for Rs 18.50 crore. I think he will go beyond that," Moody said as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.

Further, Tom Moody predicted that Shahrukh Khan, who was released by Punjab Kings (PBKS), will be bought by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for around Rs 9 crore.

"Third one is Shahrukh Khan. I think will be picked up by CSK and he won't be too far off from what he was released for at around nine crore."

"Fourth prediction is that Gujarat Titans will have the largest purse remaining after the auction. And finally, the World Cup , which was recently held in India, will have a big impact. Those who had a successful campaign will have a pay-day," said Moody.
