Chennai Super Kings head into the IPL 2024 Auction with the second biggest purse, needing only to address a few areas after retaining the core of their squad from last season.
The champions have retained 19 players and let go 8 players including three overseas stars to be left with a budget of Rs 31.4 Crore. The retirement of one of their main stays has left one void.

Super Kings have a minimum requirement for a squad of 18 players, but could do with upgrades in a few areas although their playing 11 already looks to be settled as the spine of the team and overseas slots may be something that is already set.
The Chennai-based side may look at an overseas pace option and also Indian pace backup for their injury prone attack as well as an important void to fill after Ambati Rayudu's retirement. So, CSK may look at addressing that and the pace bowling options at the auction.
Now ahead of the auction day, which is set for Tuesday (December 19), here is a look at the Chennai Super Kings retained, released, possible playing 11 and potential targets:
Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ajinkya Rahane, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (captain), Deepak Chahar, Mukesh Choudhary, Maheesh Theekshana/Mitchell Santner, Matheesha Pathirana.
With a solid squad and a gun playing 11 already at their disposal, CSK could target overseas pace options, an Indian pace upgrade that is less injury prone, a backup wicketkeeper and a possible replacement for Ambati Rayudu, who retired following the completion of last season.
