The biggest juggernaut of the year is around the corner as IPL 2024 starts from March 22. Punjab Kings will be taking the field against Delhi Capitals in their first match on March 23 at the new stadium in Mullanpur.

This IPL has not just brought in a change in Punjab's home venue, but there is a major change in their kits as well.

Punjab Kings, who are known to wear their Red and Silver jersey, changed it to much of a Red-Yellowish kit for the IPL 2024 season.

The Punjab Kings Jersey Launch took place on Saturday, symbolizing its representation of Punjab's emotions and the team's commitment to creating memorable moments for fans. The design elements of the jersey, including the Kesari patterns, the Indian tri-colour, Nihal blue arrows, and the honeycomb pattern, are symbolic and pay homage to Punjab's heritage and the unity of its people.

BCCI banned certain Colours in IPL

But what made Punjab Kings change their apparel for this season? Their owner Preity Zinta revealed why they decided to change the kit, which resulted from a certain rule of BCCI.

At the jersey launch event, Preity Zinta confirmed that BCCI banned certain colours like Silver, White and Grey for visibility issues of the white ball.

"First our colours were Red, Grey and Silver. But then BCCI banned Silver, Grey and White for visibility issues of the ball. So then we had to look for a new colour and combination with the Red. I think this year we have found the best combination with Red," Preity Zinta said at the event.

Punjab Kings need a decent season this season. They haven't qualified for the playoffs in nine successive years, since they made it to the final in 2014. It is to be seen whether a change in home and jersey colours can alter their fortunes.
