By MyKhel Staff

In a groundbreaking move for the world of cricket and sports finance, Houlihan Lokey, Inc. (NYSE), the renowned global investment bank, has unveiled its highly anticipated 2024 IPL Brand Valuation Study.

This comprehensive report offers invaluable insights into the business enterprise and brand values of the Indian Premier League (IPL), shedding light on its remarkable growth trajectory and enduring global appeal.

IPL 2024

The findings of the report paint a picture of resounding success for the IPL, as its value as a business has soared to an impressive US$16.4 billion, marking a substantial 6.5% increase (INR 135,000 crores) from the previous year. Equally noteworthy is the standalone brand value of the IPL, which has ascended by 6.3% to reach a staggering US$3.4 billion (INR 28,000 crores), underscoring the league's unwavering prominence in the realm of sports and entertainment.

One of the pivotal highlights of the IPL's commercial prowess is the renewal of its title sponsorship by the esteemed Tata Group for an additional five-year period, spanning from 2024 to 2028, at a value of approximately US$300 million (INR 2,500 crores). This renewed partnership, which entails a significant increase of approximately 50% over the previous deal, exemplifies the enduring appeal of the IPL as a premier platform for esteemed brands seeking to amplify their market presence.

The IPL's ascendancy as an advertisers' paradise is also accentuated, with the league emerging as the most coveted asset in cricket. Much like the iconic Super Bowl in the NFL, the IPL has become a breeding ground for innovative advertising strategies, with a plethora of brands capitalizing on its widespread appeal to launch new TV commercials. From fantasy apps to FMCG giants, the IPL's unparalleled reach and engagement have made it a beacon of opportunity for advertisers across diverse industries.

Harsh Talikoti, Senior Vice President of Corporate Valuation Advisory Services at Houlihan Lokey, lauded the IPL's exceptional growth trajectory, attributing it to the league's innovative approach to fan engagement and digital outreach. He emphasized that the IPL's strategic initiatives and robust fan base have been instrumental in driving its remarkable increase in value, solidifying its status as a premier sports league on the global stage.

Moreover, Talikoti shed light on the burgeoning trend of private equity investments in the IPL ecosystem, citing notable instances of investment by industry heavyweights such as CVC Capital and Redbird Capital in IPL franchises. This trend underscores the IPL's allure as a highly investible entity, buoyed by its closed league structure, equitable commercial model, and robust revenue streams.
