IPL 2024: CSK Fans Allege Misbehaviour by RCB Supporters in Bengaluru After Much-Celebrated Win

By MyKhel Staff

Tensions between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fans reached a boiling point as the two rivals clashed in a crucial IPL match on May 18, with RCB emerging victorious and securing a playoff spot.

While RCB fans celebrated their team's success, reports emerged of alleged misbehaviour towards CSK supporters outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Following RCB's win, jubilant fans took to the streets to celebrate, but some instances of overzealous behaviour marred the festivities. Social media platforms were flooded with posts detailing encounters of CSK fans facing abuse and harassment while wearing their team's yellow jerseys in public.

Annie Steve, a distressed CSK supporter, took to social media to express her concern, highlighting instances of verbal abuse and intimidation by inebriated RCB fans. In a tweet, she wrote, "Feeling unsafe wearing a CSK jersey outside and around Chinnaswamy stadium. RCB fans (men) here are abusing and bullying every single person walking by. So many men out here are so drunk and abusive on face be it women or men. People are also driving rashly, scaring us."

Similar accounts surfaced, with users recounting experiences of feeling unsafe and being subjected to harassment simply for supporting their team. Another Twitter user claimed, "Such hooligans, man. Whoever is walking out of the stadium in CSK colours is being screamed upon, and shouted upon by local RCB supporters. Jeez. We were two girls and just boarded the cab home. Wearing this five-time champion yellow jersey with pride always."

A video is also circulating on X, where RCB fans could be seen intimidating and poking fun at CSK fans - donning Yellow jerseys - as they walk past a sea of passionate RCB supporters.

Despite the reported incidents, CSK's management expressed gratitude towards their supporters and urged them to prioritize safety on their journey home. In a social media post, CSK extended appreciation for the unwavering support of their fans while acknowledging the challenges they faced amidst the celebrations.

While acknowledging the unfortunate incidents, some users highlighted acts of kindness from certain RCB fans who came to the aid of their CSK counterparts. Despite the tensions, gestures of solidarity offered a glimmer of hope amidst the discord.

Despite the unrest, authorities confirmed that no formal complaints had been lodged, urging individuals to contact emergency services if needed. As the dust settled on the contentious match, both teams and their respective fan bases reflected on the need for mutual respect and sportsmanship, regardless of the outcome on the field.
