Sameer Rizvi got the limelight towards him in the IPL 2024 Auction when the UP-born cricketer was bought by Chennai Super Kings with a final bid of Rs. 8.40 crore after a long bidding battle with Gujarat Titans.

Rizvi is known for his aggressive batting ability and can be a key signing for MS Dhoni and his team in this upcoming IPL.

Who is Sameer Rizvi?

Rizvi is an Indian cricketer who plays for Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket. He is also nicknamed right-handed Suresh Raina due to his playing style resembling that of Raina. He also represented India at Under-19 level.

The uncapped Indian batter first came to reckoning during the UP T20 League where he emerged as the highest scorer of the tournament with 455 runs in 9 innings. Rizvi got the attention of cricket enthusiasts when he hit the most number of sixes in the tournament for his team Kanpur Superstars. He also bagged two centuries in the said league and delivered a blazing innings of 84 from 50 balls in the final against Uttarakhand. His innings of 104 runs in 49 balls against Gorakhpur Lions was the fastest century in the league.

This big-hitting ability led to a bidding battle across the IPL franchises in the IPl auction. In his first appearance with the Under-23 squad of UP, he demonstrated his potential by scoring a brilliant 91 run-innings from 65 deliveries against Rajasthan.

What will Sameer Rizvi add to the CSK Squad in IPL 2024?

Rizvi's T20 cricket profile is quite attractive with an average of around 50 and a strike rate of 135. Also, his big-hitting ability will strengthen the CSK middle order. The youngster can be a force for CSK in the middle-order if he gets an opportunity.

He also captained Uttar Pradesh in a men's U-23 State Championship. This skill will also help CSK middle-order to stay composed in difficult situations. Rizvi's ability as a right-arm off-break bowler also makes him an all-rounder. Along with the other star all-rounders like Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali in the CSK squad, he can create havoc on the opponents' bowling squad.
