IPL 2024: Chennai Super Kings Likely To Release These Two Foreign Stars Ahead Of Auction
With the transfer window and retention list for the IPL 2024 nearing, Chennai Super Kings are making necessary adjustments to their squad with the aim to enter the IPL 2024 auction with sufficient funds. Cricbuzz has reported that the four-time IPL champions will trim their squad by releasing at least two foreign players.
The report further added that CSK aim to have at least Rs 30 crore to spend at the IPL 2024 auction. With the deadline day for the transfer window and retention list set at November 26, the club has already saved Rs 16.25 crore by letting go Ben Stokes and have saved a further Rs 6.75 crore with Ambati Rayudu's retirement last season.

CSK are now looking to release South African all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius and either pacer Sisanda Magala or Kiwi all-rounder Kylie Jamieson. Pretorious was bought for Rs 50 lakh at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction while Jamieson and Magala cost them Rs 1 crore each.
Earlier, Ben Stokes had withdrawn from the IPL 2024 in order to manage his workload and fitness. In an official statement posted on CSK's website, the franchise expressed that they are supportive of the English all-rounder's fitness.
Chennai Super Kings will be able to keep Stokes ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction if they choose not to release him. Additionally, Super Kings will be able to use the INR 16.25 they paid for him at the auction the following month if they release him by Sunday.
Stokes had been postponing his knee surgery for some time, but he finally disclosed it at the end of the World Cup. The ECB and Stokes will decide when he can return based on his rehabilitation.
Stokes played in just two games during the season, scoring 15 runs and bowling just one over. Prior to the 2023 IPL season, he was the Super Kings' most expensive acquisition ever, having been purchased for INR 16.25 crore (roughly US$ 1.98 million). This was partially due to the fact that he had to begin the season as a specialist batter due to a left knee injury.
