Chennai Super Kings have named Ruturaj Gaikwad as the captain for the IPL 2024 season.
The Indian batter has replaced MS Dhoni as the CSK captain for this season, which was announced by the franchise on Thursday (March 21).

Chennai Super Kings will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the first match of the IPL 2024 on Friday (March 22) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
"MS Dhoni has handed over Chennai Super Kings' captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the start of TATA IPL 2024. Ruturaj has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2019 and has played 52 matches in IPL during this period. The team looks forward to the upcoming season," a press release from Chennai Super Kings read.
MS Dhoni led the CSK side to an IPL victory last season, thus making the franchise the joint-most winners of the competition with five titles. Dhoni announced that he will play for another season in the Final, and now the veteran has been relieved of his captaincy duties so that he can enjoy his final few laps in the tournament.
Gaikwad has been a fantastic performer for CSK and has captaincy experience with Maharashtra. The 27-year-old is expected to lead the line and it will be a massive learning curve for him under the guidance of MS Dhoni.
