Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson has been reprimanded following his reaction to the controversial dismissal against Delhi Capitals in match 56 of IPL 2024 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday (May 7).
Samson was fined 30 per cent of his match fees following a heated argument with the on-field umpires after the TV umpire checked the replays for a catch close to boundary cushions and ruled the RR skipper out.

RR were well on their way in the run chase of 222 until controversy struck after Samson was caught in the deep by Shai Hope, who was very close to the boundary ropes and claimed a good catch by balancing himself.
The third umpire ruled in DC's favour but Samson was not pleased with the decision and he ended up protesting his decision with the match officials. The replays showed that the fielder was very close to the ropes and the decision left the fans and experts divided.
And following the match which ended in favour of DC by 20 runs, Samson was punished for his reaction towards the on-field umpires even after the TV umpire had given him out.
"Mr Sanju Samson, Captain, Rajasthan Royals has been fined 30 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 56 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on May 07, 2024," the official statement read.
"Samson committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL's Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee's sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding," it further stated.
This is the second such offence in the ongoing Indian Premier League season in which the TV umpire's call has led the batters to protest their case with the on-field officials.
Earlier, Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Virat Kohli argued that the beamer bowled by Kolkata Knight Riders should have been a no ball for waist-high full toss, but replays showed the ball landing below the waist if Kohli had stayed in the crease.
That decision also had experts and fans divided in their opinion, and Kohli as expected receieved a fine for his action. He had been fined 50 percent of his match fee compared to the 30 percent being imposed on Samson.
Overall, the standard of umpiring has been a little below standards as some of the calls being made seem very sketchy as pointed out by several experts and fans.
