Hardik Pandya's return to the Mumbai Indians has started on a sour note, facing boos from fans in away matches, and his homecoming to the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai turned out to be even worse.
Some section of the MI fans were thrilled with the return of the star Indian all-rounder when the trade was announced, but it all changed when reports emerged that Hardik had negotiated a move to the team if only promised of a captaincy role.

The reports turned out true as Mumbai Indians announced that Hardik had indeed replaced the most successful skipper in the franchise's history Rohit Sharma ahead of the new season. Fans had already expressed their displeasure across platforms.
Then once the season started, Hardik was booed by fans of his former side Gujarat Titans and section of the MI supporters in Ahmedabad. In Hyderabad also MI supporters, especially fanatics of Rohit were seen chanting the former skipper's name and booing the current captain.
After being booed by the fans in Ahmedabad and Hyderabad, the MI skipper didn't receive a warm reception at the home ground, Wankhede Stadium, as fans continued the trend of booing the all-rounder.
When Sanjay Manjrekar introduced Hardik as the MI skipper at the Wankhede Stadium, the fans didn't shy away from expressing themselves as they booed the 30-year-old.
The new skipper, who had overseen two defeats, was continuously jeered on by the home fans with even Rohit requesting the supporters to stop booing Hardik. However, following the third defeat, fans expressed their displeasure even outside the stadium.
In a video clip of Viral Bollywood taking the reactions of the MI fans shared on social media, some sections of the supporters can be seen demanding for the removal of Hardik from captaincy due to his "attitude" and "ego", while some reminded that Rohit is the king of Mumbai.
Hardik and Mumbai Indians will hope a win can turn things around with the fans and will look to end their winless run when they host Delhi Capitals on Sunday (April 7) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
