IPL 2024 Fact Check: Cheteshwar Pujara joining CSK as a Player this IPL Season?

Cheteshwar Pujara put the Chennai Super Kings fan guessing after a cryptic post on social media, which raised speculation about the veteran joining them.

Mumbai Indians are playing Chennai Super Kings today (April 14) at the Wankhede Stadium and Pujara made a cryptic post on social media on Sunday ahead of the match.

Cheteshwar Pujara CSK

"#SupperKings looking forward to join you guys this season," Pujara wrote on his X (Formerly Twitter) profile on Sunday.

The post has taken the CSK fans into overdrive as the fans started guessing if the veteran is joining them as a player. The India batter is mainly known for his tenacious Test knocks and is not a familiar name associated with T20 cricket.

CSK fans on social media started to speculate that Pujara is coming as a replacement for Devon Conway, while some also have guessed that Ajinkya Rahane is going to face the axe and Pujara will just come in straight to the team.

The Chennai Super Kings faithful were not over the moon with the probable prospect of Pujara joining them as a player. Pujara was signed by CSK in the IPL 2021 for Rs. 50 lakh but the player didn't play a single match for them.

IPL 2024 Fact Check: Cheteshwar Pujara is joining CSK as a player?

Although there are many theories about Pujara joining Chennai Super Kings as a player, we can safely say that Pujara's recent Twitter post maybe was just unrelated to Chennai Super Kings or it was just him joining CSK in a different role.

Also the 'SupperKings' raises speculation whether it is something of a marketing ploy as we have seen these kinds of teasing taglines in recent times which sometimes creates unrelated confusion on social media.

To be honest, Cheteshwar Pujara can't be part of the CSK squad, and the simple reason for that is that Pujara was not part of the auction. The 36-year-old didn't register his name in the IPL 2024 auction, which means he can't be roped in as a replacement for any player.

Cheteshwar Pujara IPL Career

Cheteshwar Pujara has played 30 IPL matches in his career, which mostly came in the initial years. Pujara played for Kolkata Knight Riders first and then represented Kings XI Punjab (Punjab Kings). His last IPL appearance came for Punjab in IPL 2014. CSK bought Pujara in the auction in 2021 but the Indian batter didn't play any games for them.
