IPL 2024 Fact Check: Ian Bishop makes Derogatory Comments on Players

The IPL 2024 is one of the biggest sports competitions in the world. The enormousness of the Indian Premier League is seldom matched as only the NFL or the Premier League can come in the same wavelength.

But the associated vastness of IPL comes with a baggage of controversy and illogical and unchecked rumours.

IPL 2024 Fact Check

In a recent post on X, cricket commentator and former West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop took a stance against the untrue rumours and name taggings that take place on social media. He accused some users of tagging his name along with derogatory remarks on players in IPL for the past couple of seasons.

"For the last couple of seasons there have been a number of accounts on here posting derogatory statements about players, and then attaching my name to it as if I said it. Those that follow me know that is not my way. So please pay those accounts no attention," Bishop wrote on his X profile.

The Social Media Name Tagging

Some users sometimes mutate a comment and tag someone with the altered comment to create controversy. Even worse, sometimes people create a statement of their own and associated someone else with it. These stupid yet serious comments do have a huge amplifying value as they transmit on social media in a rapid face.

The others take a look at the altered statement and share it through their own profile without even checking it. And that's how a false statement or rumours get spread. Ian Bishop took a stance on the incident and cleared that users commenting derogatory remarks on players and tagging his name with it, which is a serious allegation.

IPL 2024 Fact Check: Ian Bishop making Derogatory Comments is FALSE

MyKhel had the chance of listening to Ian Bishop in the IPL 2024 commentaries and the former West Indies player didn't utter any derogatory comments on any players in the tournament.

The people responsible for these generally do it for their own purpose so that they get more engagements on social media platforms. But to help themselves, they don't hesitate to defame or falsely accuse another person without any concrete evidence. This is a disgraceful practice and needs to stop.
