There is also a new Indian speed king in the house as Mayank Yadav of Lucknow Super Giants has clocked the fastest ball in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 by bowling at the speed of 156.7kmph.
Playing his first IPL match, Mayank clocked speeds above 150kmph consistently against the Punjab Kings at the BRSABV Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Saturday (March 30). His 155.8kmph-mark beat earlier pace set by Rajasthan Royals' Nandre Burger.

The 21-year-old Mayank easily beat Burger’s quickest delivery three times in the same match with more left in his tank. The Delhi lad topped up on his own speed by clocking 156.7kmph against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in his second IPL match.
Apart from Mayank and Burger, the likes of Gerald Coetzee, Matheesha Pathirana and Alzarri Joseph have also bowled pretty quickly this season, clocking speeds around the 150kmph-mark often.
Chennai Super Kings’ Pathirana has bowled some toe-crunching yorkers at great speeds, while Burger has also hit the helmet of batters. Here is a look at the some of the quickest deliveries bowled so far this season:
There are more speedsters participating in the IPL 2024 with the likes of Umran Malik, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Lockie Ferguson among others possessing the ability to hit the 150kmph-mark. So, bowlers on that list are expected to face competition.
Two seasons ago, Umran Malik bowled the fastest delivery by an Indian in IPL history, but he now has some serious competition in the form of Mayank Yadav. Umran’s 157kmph in 2022 season was beaten by Ferguson in the final.
The speed of 157.3kmph bowled by Ferguson was the second fastest ever clocked in IPL history. Former Australia pacer Shaun Tait leads the list, which Mayank Yadav entered with the fourth fastest ball in Indian Premier League. Here is the list.
