The 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League has witnessed several records being scripted, especially with the bat in hand. Sunrisers Hyderabad broke the record for the highest team total in IPL and then broke their own record once again to post a new record total.

The 'Impact Player' Rule is finally being utilised correctly by the franchises as several teams have used it to lengthen their batting order which allows their top-order batters to hit the ball more freely while a few teams have used it to add a bowling option to their arsenal to tackle the onslaught of opposition batters.

It is important in the modern-day T20 game to allow the batters to express themselves in a free manner as the talk of strike rate keeps getting bigger and bigger by the day. To maintain the sanctity of this article, we have only considered batters with 100+ runs in the ongoing season of the cash-rich league.

#5 Ramandeep Singh (Kolkata Knight Riders)

The rise of Ramandeep Singh has been quite evident in IPL 2024 as the all-rounder made his debut for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022 and could only muster 6 runs off 12 balls at a poor strike rate of 50.

Ahead of the 2024 IPL season, Ramandeep won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with Punjab and was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders who had a specific role for the all-rounder. Ramandeep has fulfilled it by scoring 108 runs off 54 balls maintaining an impressive strike rate of 200.

Ramandeep's innings of 25 runs off 6 balls against LSG in the Knight Riders' last fixture coupled with an innings of 24 runs off 9 balls in a match against RCB where KKR won by 1 run highlights the importance of such innings played at a high strike rate.

In the season opener against SRH, the 27-year old scored 35 runs off 17 balls, a crucial innings which was dwarfed by Andre Russell's annihilation of the opposition as the Caribbean all-rounder scored 64 runs off 25 balls helping KKR win by 4 runs.

#4 Travis Head (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

After a successful 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup campaign, Travis Head was picked in the auction by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 6.5 Crores and has not looked back since then. Currently, the Australian is third in the race for the Orange Cap trailing leader Virat Kohli by only 9 runs.

Head has accumulated a total of 533 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of 201.89 maintaining an average of 53.30. Smashing 61 boundaries and 31 maximums, the southpaw has proved the SRH management right who took the brave call of backing Head ahead of their former skipper Aiden Markram who has blown hot and cold in the IPL.

Apart from scoring four half-centuries, Head has one century to his name in IPL 2024 so far which was scored against Royal Challengers Bengaluru as SRH put 287 runs on the board, scripting the highest team total in IPL history.

#3 Abhishek Sharma (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

The resurgence of Abhishek Sharma is a tale that will be told again and again in the villages of Punjab for years to come. Like Ramandeep, Abhishek was part of the Punjab squad that won the 2023 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and finished as the second-highest run-scorer of the tournament as well with 485 runs in 10 matches including two centuries.

So far in IPL 2024, Abhishek has scored 401 runs at a strike rate of 205.64 at an average of 36.45 signifying that the southpaw is not afraid of losing his wickets in the bid to score runs quickly. Sharma has hit 35 maximums, the most in the league so far along with 30 boundaries signalling his intent of smashing the bowlers straight over the boundary line.

#2 MS Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings)

According to several reports, MS Dhoni is battling an injury and will call an end to his IPL career.

The evergreen MS Dhoni relinquished captaincy of the Chennai Super Kings on the eve of the season opener and seems to be freed of responsibility as the wicket-keeper batter has been striking the ball without any fear of consequences.

Because of an injury in the knee, Dhoni is often seen coming into bat lower down the order and has scored 110 runs in 9 innings at a strike rate of 224.48. Out of the 9 innings, the former Indian skipper has remained unbeaten 7 times, maintaining a healthy average of 55 in the ongoing season of the cricket extravaganza.

Dhoni's best innings of the season came against Delhi Capitals in a losing cause as he remained unbeaten till the end smashing 37 runs off 16 balls which included 4 boundaries and 3 maximums.

#1 Jake Fraser-McGurk (Delhi Capitals)

Not many cricket fans in India knew Jake Fraser-McGurk's name when the 2024 IPL season kicked off. The Ricky Ponting-coached side took its time to name Harry Brook's replacement as the Capitals signed Jake Fraser-McGurk which turned out to be the signing of the season.

The young starlet didn't feature in the first few matches of the season but after Mitchell Marsh's departure to Australia followed by David Warner picking up an injury, Fraser-McGurk got the opportunity to showcase his talent and the power-hitter took the IPL by storm.

In 7 IPL innings so far, Fraser-McGurk has scored 309 runs at an astonishing strike rate of 235.87 smashing 30 boundaries and 26 maximums. In the process, the Australian has scored four half-centuries in only seven innings but was ignored by Cricket Australia for the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup with Warner, Travis Head, and Marsh making up the Kangaroos' top order.
