IPL 2024: Five Unique Things of This IPL Season Which Never Happened Before
The IPL 2024 is underway and we are heading towards the end of the first complete week in the tournament.
A plethora of things have already happened in the tournament as we have seen some excellent batting and bowling shows across the first week. Defending Champions Chennai Super Kings have won their first two matches, while another former champion Mumbai Indians have lost their first two.

Although the season is just a week old, we have already witnessed some unique and never happened before things. IPL over the years has been a familiar view for the netizens, but along with the records on the field, there are certain new dimensions in the tournament in this edition.
The Home Dominance
In the IPL 2024, the first nine matches saw all the home teams winning their respective matches, which never happened before in the IPL. Generally, the home advantage is not strikingly significant in cricket, but it was utter dominance by the home teams in the first nine encounters.
The streak broke as Kolkata Knight Riders beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the last match.
Breaching 500 Mark
The Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Mumbai Indians match saw a number of records, but that match was the first 500+ aggregate score affair in the entire history of IPL. Also, in T20 cricket's history, this is only the fifth time a match has seen over 500 runs. A total of 523 runs were scored in that match, which is the biggest aggregate score in T20 cricket across the globe.
MS Dhoni not captaining CSK
In the illustrious stretch of the IPL, MS Dhoni has been indispensable with Chennai Super Kings. The former India captain has led them to five IPL wins, and they are also the defending champions this season as well. But this is the first time Dhoni is not captaining CSK in the IPL. He didn't captain them for a few matches a couple of seasons back but was reinstated as a captain. But we don't expect that to happen this year.
Bihar Ranji Player in IPL Squad
Kolkata Knight Riders bought Sakib Hussain in the IPL 2024 auction. The young pace bowler is the first-ever Bihar Ranji player to be bought by an IPL franchise. Many Bihar-born players have played in the IPL, but Sakib is the first to represent the state in domestic cricket.
The New Era of IPL
The IPL 2024 is seeing a new era of captaincy. This is the first time neither Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli are captaining their franchises, despite playing for the same team. Ruturaj Gaikwad is leading the CSK this year, Hardik Pandya took over the leadership duties at MI while Faf du Plessis is at the RCB helm.
