Mumbai Indians (MI) will be hoping to come back to their best self as they prepare for the IPL 2024.
The five-time IPL champions have made some groundbreaking deals ahead of the 2024 season, the biggest of which was the return of Hardik Pandya. In the auction, they signed the likes of Nuwan Thushara, Dilshan Madushanka and do have a strong unit in the upcoming season.

The Impact Player rule was introduced in IPL 2023 where a player can come on as a substitute and participate in batting and bowling. The arrival of this rule changed the dynamics of the IPL last season, and it is set to play a big part again in 2024.
Here are four MI players who may not start in the match, but can be introduced as an Impact Player-
Akash Madhwal was one of the finds for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023, as the pacer picked up 14 wickets in just 8 matches last season. The 30-year-old pacer was introduced as Impact Player many times in 2023 and can hone the same role again this year.
Veteran leg-spinner Piyush Chawla found his lost form in IPL last season. Chawla was quite brilliant for MI and was subsequently retained by them. The 35-year-old is likely to play part as an Impact Player this season when Mumbai bats first in a match.

Chawla's vast experience and quality on slow tracks can be a testament to many opposition batters and MI will bank on his class to get over the line.
Nehal Wadhera is another one from MI's young contingent who will play a big part in IPL 2024. The Ludhiana-born batter scored 241 runs last season at an impressive strike rate of 145.
The 23-year-old would make a case for a start, but may have to contain himself as an Impact Player. Wadhera's batting skill and hitting prowess can make him an ideal player in the middle order in MI's run chase, which makes him a perfect contender as an Impact Player.

Shreyas Gopal's all-round quality makes him a key contender as an Impact Player. Gopal can play either as a batter or a bowler if MI require, as he can score important runs in the lower-middle order.
The 30-year-old Kerala player has had a modest outing in the limited-overs domestic season with 13 wickets, but scored some decent runs with the bat. MI can use him for both reasons, but his summon as Impact Player may mostly come as a bowler.
