Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have ended their IPL 2024 journey with a defeat against Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator.
Their stellar six-match winning run in the final half of the season is something to admire, as that has been the shining positive in yet another trophyless season.

RCB had an amazing shift in gears in the final few weeks. After losing seven out of the first eight matches, they registered a place in the playoffs with six consecutive victories. But the journey ended in the Eliminator with an underwhelming performance.
Virat Kohli was again the undisputed star for RCB this season. The 35-year-old stalwart ended up scoring 741 runs, and looks certain to win the Orange Cap this season as well. But apart from Kohli, most of their marquee players had a real struggle.
With the mega auction approaching next year, we can expect RCB to discard most of this current team and form a new-looked side for the next cycle. We can expect a few key players to be retained, but some of the big-name players are likely to be offloaded. Here are four players who look certain to be released-
The Australian is on top of the list to be discarded next season. Maxwell endured a dismal IPL 2024, with just 52 runs with the bat in 9 innings. Also, the manner of Maxwell's batting was also a shocking one. The 35-year-old had a bit success with the ball, but that won't be enough to keep a retention place.
Cameron Green was roped in from Mumbai Indians as a trade player. RCB paid a whopping Rs 17.5 crore to acquire his services, which hasn't paid off for them. Green showed sporadic brilliance, but that is not good enough.
The Australian scored 255 runs this season with an average of 31. He also picked up 10 wickets for RCB, but the level of performance was not elite for the player. Although Green is someone who RCB may bid for in the auction, but they won't block their big chunk of the purse for him, as it's too much.
RCB splashed Rs 11.5 crore for Alzarri Joseph, who played only 3 matches for them this season. The West Indies pacer conceded at almost 12 runs per over, got just 1 wicket and was seen dismantled across the parks.
The 27-year-old went for that price in the mini auction because RCB was desperate to land an overseas pacer. But the joyride for Joseph has ended and by no means RCB will be retaining him for that price.
India pacer Akash Deep has been with RCB for a long time, but the pacer hasn't found his place in the side. Another season has gone past for Akash Deep with nothing much to say. He played one match and conceded at almost 16 runs per over, and never got a chance after that dismal outing. The 27-year-old is one of the players who will certainly be discarded ahead of the auction next season.
