Hardik Pandya has endured a very difficult period in the IPL 2024, which compounded further as Mumbai Indians finished their campaign with a defeat against Lucknow Super Giants.
The defeat meant that Mumbai Indians have ended this season as the bottom-placed team, their 2nd occurrence at the root of the table in the last three years. But the misery for Hardik Pandya is even worse.

Hardik Pandya was under scrutiny for the entire season. The new MI captain has made a disastrous start to his life as the next leader of the Paltans. But as the IPL 2024 ended, it has further wounded Pandya.
The MI captain has been banned for a match for maintaining a slow over-rate in the match against Lucknow Super Giants. This is MI's third violation of the over rate this season, which has led to the ban, and an additional Rs 30 lakh fine for the captain.
Moreover, each player of the Mumbai Indians' playing XI, including the Impact Player, has been fined Rs 12 lakh or 50 percent of their match fee, whichever is less, for the slow over-rate breach.
The ban can't be executed this season as Mumbai Indians are eliminated from IPL 2024. But it will carry forward for next season, which means Hardik Pandya will be missing the first match of the IPL 2025. It is likely that Pandya will represent and captain Mumbai Indians next year, thus there is a big chance that MI will be without Pandya for their first match next season.
