Dinesh Karthik was supposed to end his IPL career at the end of this season. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru player announced the news before the start of this edition of the IPL.
Karthik, who has been a stalwart of the IPL, is one of the few players to play in all of the editions so far in the competition.

The India wicketkeeper-batter announced the IPL 2024 to be his last dance in the IPL. Karthik boasts a magnificent record in the tournament, which spans six teams.
Dinesh Karthik started his IPL journey with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). After a few years there, he joined Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). But Karthik's stellar period came with Mumbai Indians, where he won the IPL title in 2013.
After a few fantastic years with the Paltans, the Chennai-born player moved to Royal Challengers Bengaluru. In 2018, Karthik was appointed as the Kolkata Knight Riders captain. A four-year-stint with KKR was followed by three more years at RCB, where Karthik has had his swansong.
In 257 IPL matches, the RCB player has scored 4842 runs with an average of 26.32 and a strike rate of 135. He has 22 fifties in his IPL career, with a highest score of 97.
Dinesh Karthik's IPL journey has ended with RCB's elimination after losing against Rajasthan Royals. The 38-year-old was seen bidding adieu after the defeat as he walked into the dressing room. The RCB players were in appreciation and the crowd was chanting 'DK, DK' as the veteran left the field as a player for the final time.
Unless and until something extraordinary happens, we can consider Dinesh Karthik to have played his final match in the IPL.
He has been an accomplished commentator for some time now in India matches, and we are likely to see him doing the same in the coming seasons of the IPL.
