Kolkata Knight Riders won their 3rd IPL title on Sunday (May 26) as they beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets and then their captain Shreyas Iyer was spotted celebrating in Lionel Messi style.

A robust KKR outfit outplayed SRH and rampaged to a comprehensive victory to end their decade-long trophy drought.

KKR were sent to bowl by SRH captain Pat Cummins, and the Knight Riders rose to the occasion. They bundled the Orange Army for just 113 runs, the lowest in IPL final history. After the supreme bowling display, their batters dismantled SRH and chased the score down with 57 balls to spare to script a title win.

Their captain Shreyas Iyer was fantastic throughout and he was overjoyed after the win. And as the KKR captain joined his teammates to celebrate on the podium, Iyer and KKR players' celebration is being compared with Lionel Messi and Argentina after their World Cup 2022 triumph.

Shreyas Iyer came with the trophy to the left side of the podium. As he approached his teammates, the player could be seen making step-dancing slowly towards his teammates as the other players kept on watching him. Soon after taking a few steps, Shreyas hoisted the trophy with his teammates as the Knights' delight overtook the Chennai stadium.

It was clearly a pre-planned celebration and was very similar to what we saw after the World Cup 2022 Final. Lionel Messi's Argentina won their 3rd World Cup title and celebrated in the same manner, with Messi playing the role of Shreyas. Fans took notice of that and said it was Shreyas' way of tributing the Argentine legend.

Although we don't know whether the celebration from Shreyas is an act of emulating Lionel Messi, the two are very similar and it was a proper recreation of the Messi and Argentina celebration. KKR also changed the Cover Photo of their X profile with a snap of that celebration.
