IPL 2024: Kohli Hundred Overshadows Klaasen Maiden Ton – What Happened When RCB Met SRH in Hyderabad in 2023?

IPL 2024: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 41 of the IPL 2024 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday, April 25. The last time RCB and SRH locked horns in Hyderabad, Virat Kohli and Heinrich Klaasen smashed a hundred each.

However, it was Virat Kohli's hundred which turned out to be the decisive one, winning the match for RCB by eight wickets and four balls remaining. RCB captain Faf du Plessis also chipped in with 71 runs.

After winning the toss and opting to field first, RCB reduced SRH to 2/28 in 4.3 overs, but a 76-run partnership off 50 balls resurrected the innings for them. Klaasen chipped in with 58 runs off 31 balls, while then Hyderabad captain Aiden Markram scored 17 off 19 during the period.

Markram departed for 20, but Markram continued with his onslaught and stitched another partnership for 74 runs off 36 balls with Harry Brook. Klaasen brought up his maiden IPL hundred off just 49 balls, and ended up scoring 104 runs off 51 balls.

Harry Brook scored unbeaten 27 off 19 balls as Sunrisers Hyderabad finished at 186/5 in 20 overs. Michael Bracewell picked two wickets, while Mohammed Siraj, Shahbaz Ahmed, and Harshal Patel picked a wicket each.

In reply, the opening stand between Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis pushed SRH completely out of the match. The duo partnered for 172 runs off 108 balls. Kohli scored (100 off. 63) a hundred at the top, and captain du Plessis scored 71 off 47. Glenn Maxwell and Michael Bracewell remained unbeaten on five and four runs respectively.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan were the two SRH bowlers who picked wickets. Kohli was adjudged Man of the Match for his sixth IPL hundred which kept RCB in the playoffs race. The hundred also helped him become only the second player after David Warner to score over 500 runs in six IPL seasons.
