Visakhapatnam, Apr 3: In a clinical display of power-hitting and stellar bowling, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) stamped their authority in the ongoing IPL 2024 with a resounding 106-run victory over the Delhi Capitals in a riveting clash on Wednesday, (April 3) at Visakhapatnam.

The stage was set ablaze by the KKR batters, led by the formidable Sunil Narine, who showcased his batting prowess with a scintillating knock of 85 runs off just 39 deliveries.

Narine's explosive innings was complemented by the youthful exuberance of teenager Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who made an impressive IPL batting debut with a fluent fifty, scoring 54 runs off 27 balls.

Together, they propelled KKR to an imposing total of 272/7, falling just five runs short of the tournament's highest-ever score in IPL history. SRH scored 277/3 against Mumbai Indians just a few days back.

The Delhi Capitals, in contrast, found themselves struggling to keep pace with the mammoth target set by KKR. Despite valiant efforts from skipper Rishabh Pant, who scored a spirited half-century, and Tristan Stubbs, who also notched up a fifty, the Capitals faltered under the immense pressure, ultimately succumbing to a paltry total of 166 runs in 17.2 overs.

Narine, continuing his explosive form, punished the Delhi bowlers with finesse, dispatching the ball over the boundary rope on seven occasions and hitting seven fours during his blitzkrieg innings. His onslaught was relentless, as he made the most of a dropped chance to notch up his highest-ever score in T20 cricket.

Raghuvanshi, too, showcased his batting prowess, forming a formidable partnership with Narine and contributing significantly to KKR's imposing total. With support from Andre Russell and Rinku Singh, who delivered crucial runs in the latter stages of the innings, KKR's batting line-up appeared invincible, leaving the Delhi bowlers gasping for breath.

Mitchell Starc, uncapped Vaibhav Arora star with the ball for KKR

In the bowling department, KKR's pace duo of Vaibhav Arora and Mitchell Starc dismantled Delhi's top order in the powerplay itself, snaring crucial wickets and denting their chase early on. Despite a spirited partnership between Pant and Stubbs, the Capitals failed to keep up with the escalating run rate, ultimately falling short in their pursuit of the target.

Overall, it was a forgettable outing for the Delhi Capitals, as their bowlers struggled to contain the relentless onslaught from the KKR batsmen. With as many as 18 sixes and 28 fours, KKR's dominance was evident, leaving their opponents reeling and searching for answers.
