The seventeenth edition of the Indian Premier League - IPL 2024 got underway on Friday (March 22) with defending champions Chennai Super Kings opening the campaign with a 6-wicket win against their Southern rivals Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
And like every other cricket match or the previous editions of the IPL, there were several outstanding performances in the game, leading to one player walking away with the Man of the Match award.

In any sport, Man of the Match or Player of the Match award is given to a player for his/her outstanding performance or to the one who makes the most impact in a match. Sometimes, the award is given to the best performer even if the player is on the losing side.
While the result of the match doesn't always come into consideration in deciding the man of the match, the player of the match award has been won by a player of the winning side in most games.
In IPL 2024, CSK debutant Mustafizur Rahman won the first player of the match award for his 4 for 29 spell, while Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Andre Russell and Punjab Kings' Sam Curran bagged awards in the next two matches.
A total of 74 matches will be played during the course of IPL season 17, and here we will updated the player of the match award winners from every match right after the completion of the match and the presentation ceremony:

Sunrisers Hyderabad openers Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Kolkata Knight Riders star all-rounder Sunil Narine have won the man of the match award most times this season, having bagged the player of the match three times each.
Meanwhile, Mitchell Starc, Andre Russell, Sam Curran, Varun Chakravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Marcus Stoinis, Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant, Japrit Bumrah, Mayank Yadav and Jos Buttler have all won the player of the match award twice in the ongoing IPL season 17.
Several players can catch up on the record holder for most man of the match awards won in IPL history, while few Indian players also could catch up on Indians with most player of the match awards in the Indian Premier League.
IPL legends Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and David Warner will look to get closer to greats AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle's tally for most man of the match awards in IPL history.
Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals player AB de Villiers has won the most player of the match awards in IPL, having bagged the MoM 25 times followed by his teammate, former West Indies great Chris Gayle, who won the man of the match award 22 times in IPL.
Current Indian skipper Rohit Sharma tops the leaderboard for most MoM won in IPL by winning the award 19 times, but he is closely followed by former India captains Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni, who have 18 and 17 IPL man of the match awards respectively.
Meanwhile, the likes of Andre Russell, Shuman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja will all look to catch up on the leaders in the seasons to come. Here is a look at the most Man of the match award winners in IPL:
