The Indian Premier League (IPL) has become one of the biggest and most lucrative sporting events in the world, thanks to the glamour, competitive cricket, and of course, the larger-than-life personalities that make the league so exciting. While many of us know the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, and other Bollywood stars who have taken the spotlight as IPL team owners, the league is also home to several not-so-famous investors and business tycoons who play key roles in shaping the league’s success.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the lesser-known faces behind the IPL teams in 2024, who may not be in the media spotlight as much as their celebrity counterparts, but are no less important in steering the ship of their respective franchises.

When you think of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the first name that pops up is, of course, MS Dhoni – the captain cool, who has made the yellow army synonymous with success. But behind the scenes, the real power player is N. Srinivasan, the man who has steered the CSK ship since day one. As the owner of India Cements, Srinivasan’s quiet leadership is the reason CSK continues to be one of the most successful franchises in IPL history.
Much like the steady hand of a captain who leads from the back, Srinivasan’s no-nonsense, business-savvy approach has been crucial in keeping CSK on top. His involvement in the team might be low-profile, but it’s as solid as the foundation of his cement empire.
We all know Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers from the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) squad, but who exactly is behind the wheel of the franchise? United Spirits, which is now a part of Diageo, owns RCB, with Anand Kripalu being one of the key figures involved in the day-to-day operations of the team.
Although RCB has yet to win an IPL title (the dream still lives on!), Kripalu’s leadership has shaped the team’s direction, bringing a more structured approach to the franchise’s management.
While Delhi Capitals (DC) may not have clinched an IPL title yet, they have certainly made a mark as a team that is on the rise. GMR Group and JSW Group are the dynamic duo that own the team, with Kiran Kumar Grandhi and Parth Jindal playing the pivotal roles in managing the franchise.
Though the Capitals may have taken time to build a championship-worthy squad, their gradual improvement year after year shows the importance of strategic investments and vision. Under the leadership of these two businessmen, DC has become a force to reckon with, even without the bling of more famous teams.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) is one of the oldest teams in the IPL, with a rich history that includes a memorable 2008 championship win. However, the ownership group is less about big Bollywood names and more about solid business connections. Manoj Badale and Lachlan Murdoch head the ownership group, with Badale playing the key role in shaping the franchise’s current direction.
Even though the team has had a turbulent ride in terms of performance, Manoj’s steady leadership continues to shape the Royals’ future, focusing on nurturing young talent and expanding the team’s reach globally.
Sanjiv Goenka and the RPSG Group have added another feather to their cap with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Entering the IPL in 2022, this franchise was a fresh addition to the league, but under Goenka’s leadership, it has quickly made its mark.
Gujarat Titans, the newest addition to the IPL family, was owned by CVC Capital Partners in 2022, bringing a fresh vibe to the tournament. The key person is Stephen Pagliuca. Though they’re relatively unknown to casual cricket fans, CVC’s business acumen has already proven to be a game-changer for the team.
