IPL 2024: Mohammad Kaif Calls Out Poor Umpiring By Comparing Two Questionable Decisions

Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has called out the poor umpiring in the ongoing IPL 2024 by comparing two questionable decisions made by the TV umpire in the last few days.

In one of the incidents, Virat Kohli, who was in blistering form, was caught and bowled off a full toss from Harshit Rana which initially appeared to be a beamer. Not amused after being given out by the on-field umpires, RCB's marquee batter referred the decision to the third umpire.

After going over the replays, the third umpire upheld the on-field decision, giving him out. Furious at being adjudged out, Virat was seen remonstrating on the field and started walking off in anger as the Knights rejoiced.

On Monday (April 22), when several experts and former cricketers had their say, backing the umpires call and praising the technology for getting it right with the player waist height measurements, Kaif had a different view to the majority of his ex colleagues.

"Clear unplayable beamer gets Kohli out and a ball that passed under Dhoni's bat declared wide. Cameras, replays, technology but still such mistakes being made. Poor umpiring," Kaif posted on X with both images.

Earlier in the week, Mahendra Singh Dhoni had challenged successfully for a delivery which was not called a wide during the match against Lucknow Super Giants at the BRSABV Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

Despite the ball going under the bat, the TV umpire asked the onfield umpire to overturn his decision and signal a wide as the ball bowled by Mohsin Khan was not within the wide guide line.

This call could have been fine if the ball was not within the reach of the batter, but it went right under the bat of Dhoni, leading the onfield umpire to not call it as a wide. However, following the review, the umpire was forced to change his call.
