IPL 2024: Mohammed Siraj Reveals He Overcame Stomach Ache to Deliver Match-Winning Performance for RCB

By MyKhel Staff

Despite battling severe stomach ache, Mohammed Siraj delivered a match-winning performance for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against Gujarat Titans (GT) in an IPL 2024 game, keeping an eye on the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.

On a day when his health was far from perfect, Siraj revealed the struggles he faced just before the game. In a candid video shared by IPL featuring his teammate Yash Dayal, Siraj opened up about his condition.

"I felt I would not be able to play the game today. I had immense pain in my stomach and also loose motions so I thought there was no chance I would be playing. But I thought that since there is a T20 World Cup around (from June 1 onwards in the West Indies and the USA), getting game time will be very important and good for me. I did not have the energy to bowl with this intensity but maybe the almighty gave me the power," Siraj explained.

Despite his physical ailments, Siraj went on to claim 2/29, crucial in keeping GT to a manageable total of 148, which RCB chased down comfortably with 38 balls to spare. This performance not only highlighted his dedication but also his critical role in RCB's bowling lineup.

Siraj's efforts are particularly notable considering his performance this IPL season, where he has taken eight wickets in 10 matches at an average of 44.00, with best figures of 2/26. The game against GT showcased how crucial he is to RCB's strategy, especially when they opted to field first after winning the toss.

The GT innings saw a rocky start at 19/3 before a partnership between Shahrukh Khan and David Miller briefly steadied the ship. However, RCB's bowlers, including Siraj, kept the pressure on, eventually dismissing GT for 147 in the 20th over. Yash Dayal and Vijaykumar Vyshak also chipped in with two wickets each, complementing Siraj's efforts.

In the chase, RCB's openers Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli put on a 92-run stand to set the tone. Though there was a slight wobble due to Joshua Little and Noor Ahmed's bowling spells, Dinesh Karthik and Swapnil Singh saw RCB home, underscoring the team's deep batting strength.

Siraj's ability to play through pain and contribute significantly to his team's victory stands as a testament to his resilience and dedication, attributes that will be crucial for India in the upcoming World Cup.
