IPL 2024: Not Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh! These Two Players deserved a T20 World Cup Spot

The T20 World Cup 2024 squads for a few countries have already been announced. India, England, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa have already picked their 15-member team for the World Cup.

Some of the countries have also announced that they will be travelling with reserve players. India named four reserves while New Zealand also included one reserve player. Australia, on the other hand, have opted without any travelling reserves.

India left out Shubman Gill and Rinku Singh from the World Cup main squad as the duo will be flying as travelling reserves. Gill has been a mainstay in the Indian team for a year and more now, while Rinku Singh has emerged as one of the best T20 players in recent times after his heroics with KKR in the IPL.

IPL has been a benchmark for selection, but two players have missed out on a World Cup spot for their respective teams despite being excellent in the ongoing competition, and its not Shubman Gill or Rinku Singh.

Jake Fraser-McGurk

Jake Fraser-McGurk will be utterly disheartened by the fact that he has missed out on a World Cup spot for Australia. The 22-year-old has been a revelation for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2024, scoring heaps of runs so far.

Fraser-McGurk has amassed 259 runs so far in six innings, with a strike rate of 233 for DC in the IPL. Even for Australia, he has shown his batting prowess in the 2 ODIs that he played earlier this year against West Indies.

The ACB picked David Warner in the Australia squad but the swashbuckling youngster was omitted entirely. It is a huge shock and probably a decision that may have ramifications.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad probably should have found a place in the Indian team. Despite having a stellar IPL 2024 and an excellent record in T20Is, Gaikwad was not picked for the India team. Gaikwad has shown his class as an opener for CSK in this IPL and is leading the five-time champions efficiently as well. He also has a hundred for India in T20Is and boasts a strike rate of 140 with a healthy average of 35 in national colours. But Gaikwad hasn't found his name among the 19 members and it is a disappointment. He has scored 509 runs in 10 matches so far and is the highest scorer in the IPL 2024.
