IPL 2024: Parthiv Patel Labels RCB’s Glenn Maxwell as Most Overrated Player in Indian Premier League History

By MyKhel Staff

Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel has not held back in his opinion about Glenn Maxwell, labelling the Australian all-rounder as the "most overrated player" in Indian Premier League history.

The former stumper Patel, who has had a couple of stints with the Bengaluru-based side, expressed his opinion on social media moments after Maxwell had another failure with the bat for RCB in their 4-wicket win over Gujarat Titans on Saturday (May 4).

Walking in to bat at number 5 with just 45 to get in 75 balls, Maxwell could only manage to add a boundary before he threw his wicket away, holing out to David Miller at deep square leg after a lofted pull off Joshua Little.

Just minutes after Maxwell's 4-run innings, Patel took to X to post: "glenn maxwell....HE IS THE MOST OVERRATED player in the history of ipl...#IPL2024 ...." a post which triggered mixed reaction from fans on the social media platform.

While some came in the defence of Maxwell, some agreed with Patel, but said the Australian is differen player when representing his national team, leading to the former Indian wicketkeeper to create a poll in his next post.

In the ongoing season, Maxwell has scored just 36 runs in 7 innings at a strike rate of 97.30 with the best of 28, which came in the defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders. He has registered 6 single digit scores, including three ducks this season.

Overall, the Australian all-rounder, who made his IPL debut in 2012, has amassed 2755 runs including 18 fifties in 132 matches at a strike rate of 156.36. He has scored over 500 runs in two seasons and crossed 300 only in three other seasons.

Maxwell's numbers in the IPL over the years kind of prove Patel's statement as the Australian has failed to live up to the hype in his 12 seasons of playing in the lucrative league, especially with regards to his price tag.

The 39-year-old former wicketkeeper-batter was trolled by fans for calling out Maxwell for his performance in IPL as some took the ICC trophy angle to question Patel on his own achievements in international cricket.

With all the rage assumed to have come from the RCB faithful, the former wicketkeeper batter responded with a pic of him in a Mumbai Indians jersey kissing the IPL trophy with the caption "good night".
