Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will lock horns on Saturday (May 18) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in a match having a huge baring on one of the IPL 2024 playoff spot.
With 14 points on board in 13 matches, CSK (+0.528) is well-placed to finish in the top four on the points table due to a better Net Run Rate (NRR), while RCB (+0.387), who are on 12 points from 13 matches need to win by a decent margin to topple their opponents.

RCB will need to win by an 18-run margin or chase down a target within 18.1 overs to topple CSK in the table. However, a washout or victory for CSK or a RCB win by a small margin, will see the defending champions through to the knockouts.
One set of fans are set to be disappointed at the end of the match or even if there is washout, but there is a chance for both Virat Kohli and Mahendra Singh Dhoni to stay alive in the tournament if other results go their way.
For both RCB and CSK to qualify, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru will first need to win their match by less than 17 runs or finish a chase in more than 18.2 overs. But that alone won't be enough for RCB to join CSK in the playoffs.
RCB will need other results also to go their way should they beat CSK by a smaller margin. If CSK and RCB do end up on 14 points each, they will want Sunrisers Hyderabad to lose their remaining two matches by a good margin.
Although there is a chance for both CSK and RCB to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs at the expense of another Southern side, it is highly unlikely for SRH to lose both their matches. Even if they lose them, it is very unlikely that they will fall to huge defeats.
SRH will play Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings on May 16 and May 19 respectively, while CSK and RCB clash on May 18 when one of them is set to exit the tournament.
