IPL 2024: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 27 runs to become the fourth and last team to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs on Saturday, May 18. RCB joined Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL playoffs.
RCB needed to win the game against CSK by 18 runs to pip the five-time champions for a spot in the last four. RCB, CSK and Delhi Capitals (DC) finished the league stage with 14 points each. However, the 27-run win helped RCB go past CSK's Net Run Rate (NRR).

On Sunday (May 19), SRH defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the day game to pip RR for the second spot. In the 70th and final league match of the IPL 2024 between RR and KKR, the former needed a win to regain the second spot, but the match was called off due to rain unfortunately.
After Rajasthan was forced to share a point, Kolkata finished the league stage at top with 20 points in 14 games. SRH and RR finished at 17 points each, but SRH held on to the second spot due to a better Net Run Rate, and confirmed their berth in the Qualifier 1 with KKR.

Notably, Qualifier 1 of the IPL is played between the top two teams at the end of league stage matches.
RCB have finished at the fourth spot and will face third-placed Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2024 Eliminator at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, May 22.
Notably, the IPL Eliminator is played between the third and fourth-placed teams after the end of league stage.
IPL 2024 Qualifier 2 will be played on Friday, May 24 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium between the winner of Eliminator and loser of Qualifier 1. The team winning in the Qualifier 1 will directly qualify for the IPL 2024 final in Chennai on Sunday, May 26.
