IPL 2024 Powerplay Scores: Powerplay is crucial period of the limited overs format in cricket as it dictates which way the game is headed for a team that is setting a total or a team that is chasing a target.
In T20 cricket, the powerplay is even more pivotal as the batters get only the first six overs of an innings to utilise the fielding restrictions of not more than two fielders outside the inner ring or the 30 yard circle.

Over the years in the Indian Premier League, for the majority of the time, we have witnessed batters give explosive starts to their teams. Very rarely there have been slow starts especially when matches are played mostly on good batting wickets.
In IPL 2024, we have seen teams post 60 plus on most occasions inside the first six overs of an innings. Sunrisers Hyderabad has posted the highest score in the powerplay history during match 35 against Delhi Capitals on Saturday (April 20).
That was also SRH's highest-ever score in the first 6 overs, while Delhi Capitals also posted their highest ever powerplay score in the run chase. Punjab Kings posted their highest powerplay score vs KKR. Here is a look at the top 5 powerplay scores in IPL 2024:
While there have been scores of 50 plus inside the powerplay of most games this season, there have also been instances when teams have registered scores below 50 and even 40 sometimes. Here is a look at the top 5 lowest powerplay totals in the ongoing season:

While most powerplays have seen teams post 50 plus totals, there have been three occasions when teams have smashed 100 or more inside the first six overs of an IPL match.
Sunrisers Hyderabad currently hold the record for highest score in powerplay in IPL history, having scored 125 runs against the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Kolkata Knight Riders had held the record previously with 105 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2017 at the batters paradise - M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
KKR had surpassed a three-year-old record held by Chennai Super Kings, who had scored 100 in the first six overs (powerplay) during IPL 2014 Qualifier 2 match against Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
While those three innings witnessed the highest ever powerplay scores in IPL history, there are many more innings that saw the team score over 14 runs per over, and the two most successful sides have dominated the list.
