The M Chinnaswamy Stadium crowd erupted taking the decibel levels to 124dB during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's 4-wicket victory over Punjab Kings in match 6 of IPL 2024 in Bengaluru on Monday (March 25).
Last season, crowd at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, had seen decibel levels recorded between 110-120 with chants for their skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni in most of the games in the venue.

"112. 120. 117. 115. 115. 112. 112. 112. 117. 112. 117. 120. 115. 120," were the decibel levels recorded whenever Dhoni walked out to the field during the IPL 2023, which was believed to be his last season in the Indian Premier League.
On Monday (March 25), those sound levels were breached when RCB fans reacted to Virat Kohli's catch at extra cover to dismiss Punjab Kings opener Jonny Bairstow in the third over of the match.
Bairstow looked dangerous, scoring back to back boundaries of the first two deliveries of the third over bowled by Mohammed Siraj, who got his revenge in the third delivery via a short ball, which the PBKS batter top-edged with Kohli taking a catch inside the circle.
The home crowd erupted in celebration as RCB claimed their first wicket of the match with the decibel meter recording the sound levels peaking at 124 dB, the highest level recorded this season.
Earlier in the ODI World Cup 2023 final, Indian pacer Mohammed Shami's dismissal of Australia opener David Warner led to a deafening noise inside the Narendra Modi Stadium with the decibel levels reaching 127 dB.
Notably, a military jet makes a noise of 130 dB at the time of take-off, and an aircraft carrier generates noise that goes up to 100 decibels. So, one can imagine what noise the crowd generated at these cricket matches.
Star Sports, the official broadcaster of the IPL, has introduced Shor Meter, which helps in measuring audience's excitement through their decibel level. The broadcaster also implemented AI to translate commentary.
