The Week 7 of IPL 2024 has seen another dynamic proceeding in the points table. We have started to get a clearer picture of the playoffs, but still a long way to go till the finish line.
As the group stages are churning out rapidly, it was a revival for a few teams in the past week, while some suffered lacklustreness in their steps. Till the Match 61 on May 12, the IPL table sees Kolkata Knight Riders occupying the top spot with 18 points in 12 matches.

RR, CSK, SRH and DC are also in the playoffs hunt while Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans barely stay afloat. The week has seen the demise of Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings, who have become the first two teams to get eliminated from this season's competition.
Virat Kohli has lit up the IPL with his batting brilliance this week. After being criticised for his slow strike rate in a match, Kohli has shown his devastating form. He scored 70 runs and then a 42-run knock against Gujarat Titans in two matches. Then the RCB stalwart backed it up with a scintillating 92 off just 47 balls against Punjab Kings. Kohli currently sits on top of the Orange Cap list with 634 runs.
Varun Chakravarthy's revival with Kolkata Knight Riders continued in week seven as well. The Kolkata Spinner got three wickets in the drubbing against Lucknow Super Giants, and then backed it up with a Player of the match performance against Mumbai Indians at the Eden Gardens. Chakravarthy, who started the season with eight wickets in the first eight matches, has picked up 10 in the last four and sitting third in the purple cap list with 18 wickets.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru has started a late revival to the season with four consecutive wins, and two of them came in the past week. RCB first completed a double over Gujarat Titans and won the match by 4 wickets, then got a massive victory against Punjab Kings in Dharamshala to stay afloat in the playoff race. But the disappointing fact is that it may not be enough as the bridge looks too far for them.
Taking aside the public reprimand that he received from the LSG owner, it hasn't been the best of weeks for KL Rahul. The Lucknow Super Giants captain scored just 25 runs against KKR, and then could only manage 29 runs off 33 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad. His team has also lost their last two matches, and now find themselves in a deep hole in the playoff race.
Rohit Sharma's dismal form of late in the IPL also continued last week. He scored just 4 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad, and then could only manage 19 runs of 24 balls in a chase against KKR at the Eden Gardens. The MI batter has looked off-coloured in the last few matches and Mumbai Indians have also eliminated from the tournament.
Rajasthan Royals have found themselves in a pickle. They were so far ahead in the points table and was sitting comfortably with 16 points in 9 matches. But Sanju Samson's team has lost 3 matches in a row, two of which came in this week. They lost against Delhi Capitals on May 7th and then against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday. It means that the Royals are still not through to the playoffs.
