IPL 2024 is just a few months aways as teams have announced their retained and released list ahead of the player auction, which is scheduled to be held in Dubai on December 19.
The anticipation for the new season started immediately after the IPL 2023 final in which Chennai Super Kings led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni defeated Gujarat Titans to clinch their record-equalling fifth IPL title.

Fans were excited with the news that MS Dhoni will play yet another season despite rumours of the veteran likely to hang up his gloves once he guided CSK to another title.
Now, with his retention all but confirming that he will be playing in 2024, the cricketing world is eager to know when the season will start and when they can see their favourite players in action.
IPL 2024 will see ten teams battle for the title. The 10 teams part of IPL 2024 are CSK, GT, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants, and Kolkata Knight Riders.
The excitement will go up another notch when the 10 franchises finalize their squads for the new season during the one-day mini auction, where over 70 slots may be filled. But before that there has been rumours of IPL 2024 start date and IPL 2024 final date.
IPL 2024 schedule will be announced sometime in February, but there are already reports doing the rounds that the season will start early due to the T20 World Cup 2024 being scheduled for an early June start.
With the 20-team T20 World Cup 2024 set to take place from June 4-30, reports suggest that IPL 2024 will start on March 22, 2024 and conclude with the final on May 26, 2024, giving at least a week for players to rest before the show-piece tournament.
There is also a possible leak of the date made during the IPL auction preview show in which the anchor hints that the season could start on March 12, 2024. This date kind of makes sense if the BCCI wants to give the national team ample time to prepare for the World Cup.
However, the dates of the General Elections next year will be key to when the IPL starts or even where the season will be held as there are reports that the league could be held outside India. Everything should be clear by February.
The latest gossip is that the Southern Derby - Chennai Super Kings vs Royal Challengers Bangalore could open the season at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on March 22, 2024.
However, many believe that it will be the traditional champion vs runner up opener, meaning CSK will take on GT, and the match may happen at the very venue where they clashed for the title in IPL 2023 - Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
