The Delhi Capitals vs Lucknow Super Giants IPL 2024 game on Tuesday (May 14) saw the record for total sixes in a single Indian Premier League (IPL) season breached as the tally went past 1124 maximums.
The previous record was 1124 sixes in a single season, which was created last season, breaking the previous year's tally of 1062 sixes. With 1125 sixes, the total sixes in single season record was smashed this season with 10 more matches still left to play in the season.

As the number of games increased in 2022 due to the expansion of the league, the 1000 sixes mark has been breached in all three seasons so far. Before that, the best finish for a season was 872 sixes in the 2018 edition.
There has been few seasons that saw more than 74 maches being played, but the six-hitting has gone to a whole different level only since the 2022 season. In 2024, it has gone up another notch as it's been raining sixes and records in most matches.
With 10 more matches to go, there is a chance we could see even the 1200 sixes mark being breached especially due to the major contributor to the sixes tally this season set to feature in at least two more matches. Here is a look at the total sixes of every edition of IPL:
As mentioned earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad has been the major contributor for six-hitting this season followed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals with the likes of Abhishek Sharma, Virat Kohli, Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen and Jake Fraser-McGurk smashing the big hits.
