What happened to Shashank Singh in IPL 2024 Auction?

In the IPL 2024 auction, Shashank Singh was bought by Punjab Kings at his base price of Rs 20 lakh. But after the player was bought, the Kings owners Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia told the auctioneer Mallika Sagar that they were looking to buy a different player.

The auctioneer had already gone past to the next player and thus the Kings had to settle with Shashank Singh. Soon after, an official statement from Kings said that they got the player they wanted as it was a misunderstanding with the name of the player.

"Punjab Kings would like to clarify that Shashank Singh was always on our target list. The confusion was due to two players of the same name being on the list. We are delighted to I'm onboard and see him contribute," a statement from Punjab Kings read.

Shashank has played all of the Punjab matches so far this season and the high point of his season came on Thursday (April 4), when he scored an unbeaten 61 off just 29 balls to win his team against Gujarat Titans.

I was always in Punjab's List: Shashank Singh

The player spoke to the media on Friday and cleared the air on his mistaken signing at the Punjab Kings. The player revealed there is no issue at all and the management, players and owners have always welcomed him with open hands.

"To talk about the auction thing, it was very normal and I never felt there was a problem. I got a call from Sanjay Sir (Sanjay Bangar) the next day, he told me that I was on their list. If you see Punjab's trend in the last 15 years, they have always given chances to domestic talents. This year also we have seven to eight domestic players in the squad. So there was no tension in the dressing room or in the management or with me," Shashank Singh revealed.

The 32-year-old also spoke about the self-belief in himself after playing in domestic cricket for so many years. He also opened up on his excellent outing with Ashutosh Sharma and spoke about a key MS Dhoni advice he always follows, which was evident in the last match as well.
