Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title with a commanding performance. Led by Shreyas Iyer, KKR defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Although Gautam Gambhir's role is undeniable as the way the KKR mentor transformed this team has to be appreciated massively, their captain Shreyas Iyer has been a different class altogether.

Shreyas Iyer's captaincy proved pivotal throughout the season. His strategic decisions and on-field presence were significant factors in KKR's success. He returned this season after missing out last year with an injury and has played a big part in the merry ride.
Shreyas Iyer's leadership extended beyond tactical decisions. He fostered a positive team culture, encouraging players to support each other. This camaraderie was evident in their on-field communication and teamwork. The player always credited the team, like a true leader, and that added value within the KKR ecosystem.
KKR players do have a close bonding, and it comes from the very top. The owners and the management do have a jovial and soulful connection with the players. Shreyas Iyer has also adopted that brilliantly and has led his players in the KKR way.
Iyer has had a tough time in the past few months. The Indian batter lost out his place from the Test squad, and then subsequently lost the BCCI central contract as well. Despite performing superbly for India in the World Cup 2023, he didn't find a place in the T20 World Cup squad either.
But the Knight Riders captain didn't let those affect him. Even if we look closer, Shreyas always delivered and executed the plans perfectly. His bowling changes, attitude and body language exuberated confidence and that transcended throughout the team.
It's not that KKR didn't have adversities this year. The defeat against CSK at Chepauk, the way Punjab Kins chased down 262 at Eden Gardens - there were moments of Blue in the KKR camp. But they stood up from those knockouts and then rallied back with a fiercer punch.
KKR's victory is a testament to their collective effort. The team's management, coaching staff, and support personnel worked diligently behind the scenes. And on the field, Shreyas has marshalled his troops brilliantly.
During the tournament, commentator Ian Bishop has repeatedly praised Shreyas Iyer and called out for giving him much more credit. Former India player Mohammad Kaif has also heaped praises on the India batter for his leadership skills. And it is rightly so.
It has been a decade-long wait for Kolkata Knight Riders fans to see their team clad in glitter after an IPL final. Since the IPL 2014, KKR had never won the title before Sunday. They reached the Final in 2021 but returned empty-handed.
Shreyas Iyer, being part of that vivacious KKR ecosystem, has played a central part in their revival. After a two-year-long exit from the group stages, they have emerged as Champions again and Iyer's credit is undeniable.
It was Gautam Gambhir who led KKR to two IPL wins, and the new chief is Shreyas Iyer who has taken over the baton successfully with Kolkata's Gautam da beside him. After the win, Iyer also penned a heartfelt message on his X account.
There are many snippets of stars in this beautiful KKR campaign. Sunil Narine with those batting performances, Andre Russell with his Golden Arm, Phil Salt with his brilliance, Mitchell Starc's fantastic playoff revival and many many more. But it was Shreyas Iyer, the leader of the Knights Galaxy who has held those stars together - Thank You Shreyas, and Take a Bow!
