IPL 2024: Kavya Maran went through vivid emotions during the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) versus Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) nail-biter at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday, March 24.
Sunrisers Hyderabad, who were once reeling at 145/5 in 16.5 overs while chasing 209, needed just seven from the last five balls when Harshit Rana showed nerves of steel to pick two wickets and just two runs in the next five deliveries to hand KKR a 4-run win in their IPL 2024 opener.

Kavya Maran, the owner of Sunrisers Hyderabad, was euphoric when Heinrich Klaasen started to bludgeon the KKR bowlers. The South Africa wicketkeeper-batter smashed two sixes off Varun Chakravarthy in the 15th over, two more against the spinner in the 18th overs, and three in the 19th over from Mitchell Starc to complete a 25-ball fifty.
Starc, the costliest player in the history of IPL (Rs 24.75 crore), was hit for one more six by Shahbaz Ahmed on the last ball of the 19th as the equation boiled down to 13 off six balls.
An already thriller Kavya Maran, went bonkers after Klaasen pulled a six over backward square leg on the first ball of the 20th over.
But the next three deliveries from KKR pacer Harshit Rana, flipped Maran's emotions completely. After giving a single, Rana got the wicket of Shahbaz in the third delivery.
March Jansen picked a single on the fourth delivery before getting the big wicket of Klaasen on the penultimate ball. The wicket left Kavya Maran devastated, and as soon as Rana bowled a dot to Pat Cummins next, the sinking feeling had taken over her face completely. Fans sympathised with Kavya Maran as KKR won the nail-biter by four runs.
Recently, Kavya Maran was thrilled after Sunrisers Eastern Cape lifted the SA20 trophy under the captaincy of Aiden Markram. "It's a second cup. Back-to-back, two in a row. So glad, so happy," she had said after the win.
