Sunrisers Hyderabad named Australia's World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins as their new skipper for the upcoming IPL 2024 on Monday (March 4). The writing was on the wall ever since the all-rounder was bought for a whopping Rs 20.50 crore in IPL Auction last year.
The amount made him the second-costliest player in the IPL Auction's history. Pat Cummins replaced South African Aiden Markram, who led SRH in the 2023 season.

"Our new captain Pat Cummins," the SRH said on social media platforms, along with a picture of Cummins. Cummins has earlier played for Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils in the IPL.
Pat Cummins is a very accomplished skipper. The 30-year-old bowler has led Australia in 15 ODIs, winning 12 and losing just three. He is well-known for his composed demeanour and multiple clutch spells and innings under duress.
In 27 Test matches, he has also captained Australia; they have won 16, drawn five, and lost six. This pacer's major achievements as a captain include winning the 50-over World Cup and the WTC title. He also successfully defended the Ashes in the UK after a 2-2 draw with England.
Former captain Aiden Markram has also led South Africa at the international stage. In 2014, he guided South Africa to their first-ever ICC U19 World Cup victory. He also has won two SA20 titles with SRH's sister franchise Sunrisers Eastern Cape in South Africa.
He captained SRH in the last season, but his stint was underwhelming as the team could win only four out of 14 matches and finished at the bottom of the points table. The 2024 season of the cash-rich league will start from March 22, with one-time champions SRH set to kick off their campaign against two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on March 23.
