IPL 2024: Suryakumar Yadav reveals why he hasn't faced Jasprit Bumrah in nets for the last 2-3 years

By MyKhel Staff

Mumbai Indians' star batter Suryakumar Yadav showcased his exceptional hitting skills in the IPL 2024 on Thursday (April 11), scoring a rapid 52 runs off just 19 balls to lead his team to a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.

With this win, MI secured their fifth victory in six matches, while RCB suffered their fifth defeat in the tournament. The highlight of the match was Jasprit Bumrah's outstanding bowling performance, as he claimed a five-wicket haul, conceding only 21 runs.

With his blitzkrieg, Suryakumar announced his arrival in the competition with his outrageous shots. He made full use of dimensions at Wankhede Stadium, where he's grown up playing since his formative years, making a mockery of the opposition bowling.

However, while reflecting on Bumrah's impact in the game, Suryakumar humorously remarked that he avoids facing his MI and India teammate in the nets due to the damage he causes.

"It's been almost 2-3 years since I batted against him (Bumrah) in the nets because he either breaks my bat or breaks my foot," said Suryakumar Yadav during the post-match presentation.

Bumrah's exceptional performance made him the joint leader in the list of highest wicket-takers in IPL 2024 alongside Yuzvendra Chahal, with both players having claimed 10 wickets each.

Despite RCB's efforts, led by Faf du Plessis, Rajat Patidar, and Dinesh Karthik, to post a challenging total of 196/8, Mumbai Indians' strong batting lineup, spearheaded by Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma, ensured a comfortable chase. Suryakumar Yadav's aggressive knock further propelled MI towards victory, with skipper Hardik Pandya sealing the win with a quickfire 21 off just 6 balls.

Reflecting on his innings, Suryakumar Yadav attributed his success to practicing various shots and playing according to the field. "I just try to play to the field and practice these shots, and it is just muscle memory. I go out there and enjoy myself. The slice over point is the one that I enjoyed the most," said Suryakumar Yadav.

The match against RCB showcased Mumbai Indians' dominance, Suryakumar Yadav's exceptional batting prowess and Jasprit Bumrah's deathly bowling, contributing significantly to their victory.
